QUIT SMOKING PROGRAM

IN TWO EASY STEPS!

Tried to give up smoking? Tried going "cold turkey"? Tried the patches? Tried the "Gum"? Tried Zyban or Champix? (see warning in side bar)

Nothing seems to work? Or it worked for a while and then you went back? Given up giving up?

Many of the quit smoking "cures" do not address the underlying complexity of the smoking habit and are about as superficial as a hypnotist waving his/her hand over you and saying "You will never smoke again!"

Many people associate Hypnotherapy with giving up smoking. While a hypnotherapist usually does far more than that, I receive so many requests for information on the subject that I detail my QUIT SMOKING PROGRAM below.

Not all hypnotherapists use the same approach. Some will sign you up for a course of six or eight sessions, others will offer to stop you smoking in one session. This QUIT SMOKING PROGRAM involves two sessions (the first session is on a CD or can be accessed as an mp3 sound file) The program is the result of fine tuning over a number of years with hundreds of clients to provide you with the best possible outcome. I also offer a free emergency "back up" session within the first three weeks following the main session if you require it.

This QUIT SMOKING PROGRAM addresses the smoking habit on all fronts. It deals with the WHY, the WHERE and the WHEN aspects of the habit. It develops strategies to deal with every situation, and deals with the underlying causes and the physiological effects. Quitting smoking is a life changing (and maybe a life saving) process, however you must want it. If you are giving up because someone else wants you to, or you know in your heart that you are ambivalent, don't waste your time and your money on this or indeed any Quit smoking program.! You must really be committed to becoming a non smoker. This QUIT SMOKING PROGRAM is not something that you try. It is something you do and you do it for yourself. If you are totally resolved to give up smoking, the program will work for you!

THE FIRST STEP - Listen to my "Preparing to Quit: First Step" CD or mp3 sound file (30 minutes)

When you book your Quit Smoking consultation with me in my North Carlton rooms I will send you a CD (or arrange for you to access a sound file mp3 from another site) to prepare you for that 90 minute session.

The introductory CD or mp3 file will not stop you smoking but I will explain:

  • the program and how to prepare yourself
  • the unique premise that underpins this program
  • why this program works so well
  • the hypnotic process and what you will experience during the session in your next and final step
  • the “home work” required before the main session

Included with the CD or mp3 file is a two page questionaire to assist you with your preparation.

THE FINAL STEP (90 minute consultation)

MORE THAN JUST HYPNOSIS !

The first half of the session involves discussing your own smoking "triggers" and working through your "home work". Then we work together developing appropriate strategies to deal with situations and moments where you may be potentially vulnerable. Exercises and techniques for stress managenent are given. The next part of the session is a hypnosis process which will vary according to the needs of the client. It may involve reinforcement of developed strategies and hypnotic suggestions to become smoke free, or it could involve interactive techniques that solve inner conflicts or resolve the underlying cause, or it could involve all of the above. Smoking is a complex individual issue and needs to be tailored to the client, so a generalised impersonal approach is often ineffective.

After the session you will be given another CD to play at home. Track One "Wake Up a Non Smoker" is a ten minute "hypnopompic" track designed to play for 21 days, first thing in the morning and prepare you, the non smoker, for the day ahead.

Track Two, "Relax Smoke Free", is a twenty minute track designed to reinforce the work done in the session and allow you to enjoy relaxing without smoking. This can be used at any time of day when there is a need to relax.

The Quit Smoking reinforcement CD is not sold separately as it is an integral part of the Quit Smoking Program and it is my belief that CD/tapes for habit control must be used in combination with individual face to face sessions for maximum effectiveness.

THEN - Enjoy being a non smoker for the rest of your life!

A free EMERGENCY BACK UP SESSION is also offered within 3 weeks of the main session but is almost never needed.

99% of my clients never need to use this free session, however it is in place as a safeguard for any client who feels that they have neglected to deal with certain situations or overlooked issues in the main session.

Total cost: (including the hypnotic reinforcement CD)

$160 - due at the conclusion of the consultation. Please Note: After Hours consultations (6 or 8 pm) are charged an additional $10 = $170. Cheque or cash prefered but a credit card transaction can be arranged.
 

When you quit smoking for:

20 minutes your blood pressure and pulse will return to normal.

8 hours the nicotine and carbon monoxide levels in your blood will have halved.

24 hours the carbon monoxide is eliminated from your body and your lungs will resume their natural cleaning process.

48 hours all nicotine is eliminated from the body. Your senses of taste and smell begin to improve.

72 hours your breathing becomes easier as the bronchial tubes begin to relax.

2-12 weeks your circulation improves, making physical exercise noticeably easier.

3-9 months lung function improves by about 10% as coughs and breathing problems disappear. (Dependant on how long and how many you smoked.)

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will require two smoking-cessation drugs, Champix and Zyban, to carry the agency's strongest safety warning over side-effects including depression and suicidal thoughts.

The new requirement, "will highlight the risk of serious mental health events including changes in behavior, depressed mood, hostility, and suicidal thoughts when taking these drugs," the FDA said in a statement on its website.

The antidepressant Wellbutrin, which has the same active ingredient as GlaxoSmithKline PLC's Zyban, already carries such a warning.

The FDA said it is also requiring an additional study on Champix and Zyban to determine the extent of the side-effects. Pfizer Inc., which makes Champix, said it is still discussing the potential study design with the FDA.
